Watchhouse, formerly Mandolin Orange, is the Chapel Hill duo of Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz, who write hushed, close-harmony Americana that mistakes nothing for prettiness. Marlin's songs deal in grief, land, and inheritance; Frantz's fiddle and harmony give them their spine. The 2021 name change came with a deliberate widening of the sound beyond the string-band frame.
