Unwed Sailor is the long-running instrumental project of bassist Johnathon Ford, started in Seattle in 1998 after stints in Roadside Monument and the earliest lineup of Pedro the Lion. Ford writes from the bass up, so the melodies tend to come from the low end while guitars ring out over the top, and the records drift between post-rock patience and something closer to a film score. The lineup has changed many times over the years, but the mood, wistful and a little nautical, has not.
