The Tom Courtney Duo plays folk and Irish songs with a crisp folk-rock sound built on acoustic and electric guitar. Tom Courtney, an Irish singer and guitarist long active on Boston's pub circuit, favors songs by writers like Stan Rogers, Eric Bogle and Guy Clark alongside traditional Irish tunes. He sings them with plain restraint and lets the songs do the work.
