He produced much of his early work on an iPhone, a trick that became part of his legend, and his solo records moved from the lo-fi funk of Steve Lacy's Demo to the woozy psychedelia of Apollo XXI. Gemini Rights arrived in 2022, its single Bad Habit went to number one, and the Grammy that followed turned a cult favorite into a mainstream headliner.
