Shonen Knife (少年ナイフ) is an all-female Japanese pop punk and alternative rock band formed in Osaka in 1981 by sisters Naoko and Atsuko Yamano. Heavily influenced by 1960s pop, The Ramones, and early punk, they became international cult favorites after being championed by Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and the indie underground in the early 1990s. Their melodic, cheerful songs about candy, cats, and daily life — delivered with raw punk energy — have made them enduringly beloved across five decades of recording and touring.
