William Tell is Gioachino Rossini's final opera, staged here by Boston Lyric Opera. It tells the Swiss legend of the marksman who defies Austrian occupation, moving through sweeping choruses and dramatic arias toward Tell's rebellion. Its overture, with the famous galloping finale, is one of the best-known pieces in classical music, and the full staging brings big orchestral color and grand-opera scale.
