piano: Complete Beethoven Cello Sonatas’ next Boston-area show is March 7, 2027 at Groton Hill Music Center.
This program brings together Dutch cellist Pieter Wispelwey and Taiwanese-American pianist Pei-Shan Lee for a complete traversal of Beethoven's five cello sonatas in a single sitting. Wispelwey, praised for his 'unusually complete grasp' of the repertoire, performs internationally on both modern and period instruments and teaches cello in Düsseldorf and Amsterdam. Lee, a New England Conservatory faculty member known for her rich tone and orchestral sonority at the keyboard, specializes in duo repertoire and has partnered extensively with leading string and wind players. Together they trace Beethoven's evolution as a composer for cello and piano, from the early Op. 5 sonatas through the late Op. 102 pair.
