Noam Pikelny is a banjoist, composer, and one of the defining instrumentalists of progressive bluegrass, best known as a member of Punch Brothers and, before that, Leftover Salmon. He grew up in Chicago between Wrigley Field and the Old Town School of Folk Music, and his solo records treat the five-string as a vehicle for everything from Kenny Baker fiddle tunes to chamber-music arrangements. He won the inaugural Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass.
