The New World Jazz Composers Octet is a Boston jazz group built around original writing, led by saxophonist Daniel Ian Smith and made up of composer-performers from the Berklee and New England scenes. The eight-piece format gives the arrangements room, and the book is new music by members of the band rather than standards. They have three albums, including Transitions and Breaking News.
