Makoto Fujimura: A Portal of New Creation’s next Boston-area show is November 14, 2026 at Tremont Temple Baptist Church.
Makoto Fujimura is a contemporary painter known for "slow art" made with traditional Japanese Nihonga techniques, with work held by museums including the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. In A Portal of New Creation, presented at Tremont Temple Baptist Church as part of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Creation Festival, he discusses "Kainos" and the ideas in his book Art + Faith: A Theology of Making alongside paintings from his Qu4rtets project, inspired by T. S. Eliot's Four Quartets. The BSO String Quartet performs one of Beethoven's late quartets — the music that shaped Eliot's poems.
