Jake Blount Band

Jake Blount is a banjo player, fiddler, singer, and ethnomusicologist based in Providence, Rhode Island, working in the Black and Indigenous string band traditions of the southeastern United States. His 2020 album Spider Tales reframed old-time repertoire as protest music, and 2022's The New Faith, released by Smithsonian Folkways, imagined Black spirituals sung by climate refugees generations from now. With a band behind him the scholarship stays in the arrangements and the show plays as dance music.
