Gary Louris is the principal singer, songwriter, and guitarist of The Jayhawks, the Minneapolis band he has led through over three decades of influential alternative country and folk-rock. A charter member of alt-rock supergroup Golden Smog (alongside members of Soul Asylum, Wilco, The Replacements, and Big Star), he has also written and produced for the Black Crowes, Counting Crows, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and The Dixie Chicks. His third solo album Dark Country arrived in February 2025 to widespread critical acclaim.
