Djekady is a six-piece ensemble co-led by cellist Mike Block and Malian balafon master Balla Kouyate, whose family has produced balafon players for 800 years as part of the Djeli storytelling tradition. The group's name means "it's good to come together" in Mandinka, and their music places Malian traditions in conversation with American folk and contemporary styles.
