Chicken Wire Empire is a Wisconsin bluegrass band built on the traditional acoustic lineup of mandolin, fiddle, banjo, guitar and upright bass, then pushed somewhere looser. They came up through the Midwest festival circuit with a jamgrass streak, long instrumental stretches, and a habit of dragging rock and funk tunes into the bluegrass songbook.
