Barry Sless is Jerry Garcia on steroids. That is, technically. Artistically, hmmmm... this is would be hard one to call. Mr. Garcia earned the distinction of being the first. Mr. Sless has earned the respect for being true to the purpose of the style. Why? Partially because Jerry set the standard and Barry meets the standard on the guitar, but surpasses on the pedal steel. If Barry came before Jerry in time, Jerry would be compared to Barry.
