Anemoia is a shoegaze and dream-pop project that began on a bedroom floor in Co. Mayo, Ireland in 2018, started by then-15-year-old Gerald Higgins. Taking early inspiration from A.R. Kane, Rosetta Stone, and Current Joys, the project released its debut album Driving Songs between 2019 and 2021, a collection of Roland TR-505 loops and ethereal guitar pieces that found an audience on SoundCloud. By 2022, Anemoia had expanded into a full four-piece band.
