Alex Alvear is an Ecuadorian bassist, composer, arranger, and vocalist born in Quito who has spent decades bridging Andean folklore, Latin jazz, and Afro-Caribbean grooves. A co-founder of the influential groups Promesas Temporales and Rumbasón in Ecuador, he relocated to Boston in 1986 to study jazz composition and arranging at Berklee College of Music, and has since become a fixture of New England's Latin music scene, often leading the band Mango Blue.
